Commandment #7  Thou Shalt Not Commit Adultry

Exodus 20:14

-25. CHRISTIANS HAVE ONLY ONE SPOUSE. THIS IS CALLED MONOTONY.

2.  We have already established God's concern for the family in his fifth commandment.  This commandment logically follows Thou shalt Not Murder because adultery murders a marriage.

3. Lev. 2:10 says the punishment for adultery is the death of both man and woman.  The temple officials knew this when they confronted Jesus with the woman caught in adultery and asked if they should stone her. (John 8:1-8)  Obviously they were not interested in carrying out the law.

4.  Jesus knew man's evil hearts, that what the heart conceives, the body will commit. Thus he gave us his commandment in Matt. 5:27028 and convicted men, and women, throughout time. 

5.  The effect of pornography.

a.  Availability-EVERYWHERE

1) How girls and women dress

-Will's observation to teens in youth group, "Why do you dress to attract the kind of guy you wouldn't want?"

-Mother dropping off her daughter at a Christian elementary school, "The kids have a dress code.  The mothers need one."

2) The media - need I say more?

3) Internet

b.  Addiction.  The pleasure of viewing pornography is proven to be addictive. 

b. Effect on the family.

1) Pictures are air brushed, so everyone looks perfect

2) No human, husband or wife, can compete with a perfect body

3)  No husband or wife can complete with a fantasy person.

6.  Solutions

a.  Pray. God and only God can take the appetite away

b.  Avert your eyes

c.  Make yourself accountable

d.  Focus on the good qualities of your spouse.
